Visioneer Introduces Patriot 780. A High Speed A3 Production Scanner Rated At 80 IPM
Visioneer recently announced a new GSA/TAA-compliant high-speed, flatbed/ADF scanner designed to address production scanning needs for a broad range of vertical business applications. The Visioneer Patriot™ 780 is equipped with an A3-sized flatbed that can accommodate documents up to 11.7”x17” on the glass or through the automatic document feeder. It scans 80 images per minute (ipm) for double-sided documents and the included software bundle allows users to automatically scan to searchable PDF, which greatly enhances both indexing and archiving processes since the scanned document is already searchable by content. Visioneer has a broad line of scanners under the Patriot name that span from the workgroup to departmental to production segments specifically for U.S. Government agencies and private-sector users who require GSA/TAA-compliant products.

The Visioneer Patriot 780 scans at 40ppm/80ipm at 200 dpi monochrome and grayscale. It offers an optical resolution of 600 dpi, 48-bit internal color, a hi-speed USB 2.0 interface (USB 1.1 compatible), and a suite of bundled software applications and utilities. These include TWAIN and ISIS® certified drivers, Kofax VRS software, ScanSoft® PaperPort Professional, and ScanSoft OmniPage Pro. The 150-page capacity automatic document feeder can handle paper and photos from business cards up to legal-sized documents.

The Visioneer Patriot 780 includes an ISIS driver certified by Pixel Translations and an advanced TWAIN driver developed by JFL Peripheral Solutions to ensure that the scanner will communicate effectively with enterprise content management and document image management software solutions.

Fujitsu Delivers Production Scanner with Best-in-Class Speed, Feature Set and Reliability
Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., recently introduced the latest breakthrough in production-level scanning—the fi-5900C. The first scanner of its kind from Fujitsu, it offers high-end, production-level functionality including 120 page per minute (ppm) processing, outstanding image quality and an enhanced design.

A unique mix of features, functionality, and quiet operation give the Fujitsu fi-5900C characteristics that make it suitable for production scanning in both the front and back-office. The fi-5900C is also the first Fujitsu scanner to come equipped with three state of the art ultrasonic double-feed detection sensors, which help prevent lost images due to misfeeds enabling larger batches of mixed document types to be scanned quickly, reliably, and automatically. It also utilizes an intelligent, self centering, active stacking tray to keep documents straight while preventing curling in the exit hopper, enhancing overall productivity via pre- and post- document preparation.

The scanner captures images at an impressive document scanning optical resolution as high as 600 dots per inch (dpi) for outstanding forms processing and to perform optical character resolution (OCR) and intelligent character resolution (ICR) functions at the highest quality. The Fujitsu fi-5900C is also engineered specifically to run at full rated speed at resolutions up to 300 dpi enabling scanning of 240 color images in one minute.

Kofax Announces the Document Scan Server
Kofax recently announced the Kofax® Document Scan Server™. With the introduction of this solution, organizations can now add scanning capabilities to any enterprise business application without the need for additional software or disruption of current business processes.

The Kofax Document Scan Server was created to address the growing need for organizations to digitally capture documents at the point of entry into their business process. Previously, a solution of this kind required specialized software and drivers to be installed on each computer. This method commonly leads to increased administrative costs because IT staff must set up administrative rights, train workers on the new software application and perform timely remote updates and troubleshooting.

The Kofax Document Scan Server offers three major features: A Software Development Kit (SDK), a simple appliance and a Management Console. The Software Development Kit leverages Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to allow a developer to integrate scanning into an existing or new application no matter the operating system or programming language. This services-based document integration provides a tighter integration of scanning to a core application. In addition, adding scanning capabilities to an existing application is less disruptive to a user’s existing workflow and allows for more efficient and effective business processes.

The Kofax Document Scan Server caters to industries that are more paper intensive and/or verticals that have already implemented information capture solutions, such as financial services, healthcare, transportation/ logistics and government.
